October 13-17, 2014

Highlights for the week:

Literacy:  If your child wants to improve his/her grade on their Reader's Notebook or their Small Moment story, they have until Friday to turn those in.  If you are unsure of your child's progress, grades are posted on Skyward.

Writer's Workshop:  We will begin working on a "How To" book that will be followed by a demonstration from your child that shows us how to do something.

Science:  We will finish up discussing landforms, erosion and deposition this week and have a test on Friday.

Math:  We will begin Chapter 6 today.  It involves multiplying with double digit numbers.  Please practice multiplication facts with your child daily.

Tuesday:  11:40-12:05
Wednesday:  12:20-12:45

October 6-10, 2014

Highlights for this week...

Reading:  Please encourage your child to read 420 minutes for the month of October.  If they reach their goal, they will receive a coupon for a free pizza from Pizza Hut.

Reader's Notebooks:  Your child will have turned in 2 responses to reading in their Reader's Notebook to me be the end of the week.  If they are not happy with their grade, they can always redo it to try for a better score.  In the notebooks, they stapled an orange paper that has the guidelines for each paragraph.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Writing:  Small moment stories have been graded and put on Skyward.  If your child is not happy with his/her grade, they may turn in another story for a better score.  Some students forgot one element that was required for the small moment and therefore ended up with a low score.  Our next piece of writing will be writing a "How To" book and creating a demonstration for the class.

Math:  We will have a test over Chapter 4 on Friday.  Please also encourage your child to work on IXL Math.

Science:  We will finish up our study of landforms this week.  We have a quiz over the vocabulary tomorrow.  We will work on a study guide this week and have a test over the entire concept some time next week.
