We will spend spend the entire day reading and being read to. We will have “secret readers” stop in throughout the day. Please make sure your child brings in plenty of things to read for that day. May Information
The year is winding down, but we still have a lot going on! Here are some highlights:
Literacy Centers are due on May 19th. The students have already had a week to start on these.
Math: We have begun working with decimals and fractions. The students will have "seat work" daily and IXL homework. Please make sure they are completing these assignments and turning them in on time.
Social Studies: We have started Unit 4. The students have started a new vocabulary list. Please help your child by studying these words with them at home.
Walk of Fame: The students were given their person to research for our Hoosier Walk of Fame. There is information in their Google folders. We will research at school, but they can also do some researching at home. We will begin working on a slideshow presentation next week. At this point, I want the kids to learn as much about their famous Hoosier as they can.
April Reading logs are past due. Please ask your child if he/she has turned their log in.
Finally, we will have NWEA testing next week.

Weekly Highlights
Good morning! I hope everyone enjoys the nice weather that is expected this weekend! I just wanted to touch base with everyone about this upcoming school week. On Monday, we will finish our practice ISTEP tests. We will then have the actual ISTEP test on Tuesday-Friday. On Monday, the students will be assessed on natural resources. They may use any notes that they have taken about the topic. Since we missed the end of the week, I will give the students an extra day to finish their weekly math. I know that some students leave this at school, so I don't want to penalize them if they were unable to finish it, due to the cancellation of school. This will be due on Tuesday. There is a copy on Edmodo, if they want to work on it this weekend. Lastly, we will be starting a chapter in math on division and a new concept in science this week. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Good morning! Hope everyone enjoyed the nice weather we had this past weekend! Here are some highlights for this week and next week:
Science: Tomorrow, students will be assessed on natural resources. They will need to tell me what they know about natural resources. Some information might include: What are they? How do we use them? What if we use them too quickly? How can we conserve them?
Math: We took a test yesterday on chapter 7 and most of my class did awesome! :) This week, we will be reviewing various concepts. We will then begin chapter 8 on division.
ISTEP practice is this week and the actual ISTEP test will be next week. We will be testing Monday-Thursday next week. Please make sure your child gets plenty of sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.

This week
This has been a very busy week! The students are working on group projects about alternative forms of energy. I have extended the deadline to Monday. The groups have some really great projects started! I am excited to see their final presentations.
Along with the group project, each student needs to write a compare/contrast essay about alternative energy. Many students have turned this in early, but did not follow the rubric. I emphasized to the students today to refer to the rubric when writing their essays. Many have chosen to work more on this paper. The rubric is a green paper and it is also posted online.
We will have a math test over Chapter 6 tomorrow.
Literacy Centers (Word Work and Reading Response) are due on Monday.

Some important information for this week....
Summarize It! is due on Wednesday. Students will need to read a nonfiction article and a fiction article and fill out a summary form for each story.
For writing, we are working on a compare/contrast essay dealing with two desserts. The second rough draft was due today. I edited these and gave them back to the students. They will need to make changes and write a third rough draft. This draft is due on Wednesday.
In math, we will be taking a test over measurement (chapter 11) on Thursday. Please review how to read a ruler, conversions, area and perimeter.
In science, we will continue discussing force and motion.
There are some tricky IXL lessons that will be due this week. Students have known about these IXL lessons from the beginning of this chapter. If your child is having trouble at home with any of these, they may come in to school early on Tuesday or Thursday morning for some extra help. They may get here at 7:40 and come into my classroom.
Report cards were posted on Friday. Please let me know if you are having trouble viewing them.
