September 1-5, 2014

Highlights for the week:

Literacy:  We will be working on responding to literature in the form of a letter to me.  The students will need to have a paragraph that explains the story that they are reading.  They will also have a second paragraph that reflects on the story and gives me evidence from the text to support their thoughts.

Word Study:  We began a whole class sort today.  We will be working through a sort together for this week and next week.  The students will soon be having their own, individual sort that is at their own level.

Reading:  Your child came home with a reading log today for the month of September.  Their goal is to read 420 minutes a month.  Please keep this at home until the end of September.

Writing:  We have been reading books about small moments.  The students will begin to work on their own small moment story by the end of the week.

Math:  We will review for our Chapter 1 test that will be on Friday.

Social Studies:  We will have a vocabulary quiz over the first part of Unit 1 tomorrow.  Please help your child study!  We will also continue to learn about the geography of Indiana.

ixl.com:  Lake Prairie has a subscription to ixl.com Math.  This is an excellent way for students to practice various standards.  They should have brought a letter home about this last week.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
